How You Can Help

The revision of the science education standards in 2008 will be one of the most important events for the future of science education in Florida. It is important that everyone do their part to improve the Florida science education standards. Here is how you can help:

  • View the final version of the science standards.
  • Attend the public meetings organized by the Florida Department of Education and speak up for science. The meetings will provide the public with opportunities to comment on the standards. The schedule of public meetings can be found at this website.
  • Talk to your scientific colleagues about the standards. Write letters to the editor in support of the standards. Contact any organization to which you belong and request that they endorse the new standards.
  • The standards will likely be voted on by the state Board of Education in February 2008. Tell the board members that the state of Florida need strong science standards so that teachers can effectively teach their students about science. You can find out how to contact them at the Florida Board of Education website.
  • Sign the petition sponsored by the Florida Citizens for Science. The petition signatures will be delivered to the Board of Education members prior to the February 19th vote. Please help us to deliver to the board members the thousands of signatures that will convince them that Floridians want good science standards.

If you would like to send an automated e-mail that supports the proposed science education standards to the Florida Board of Education, enter your first and last name along with any other additional identifying information up to 100 characters, i.e. e-mail address into the appropriate field below and click on the Send E-mail button.
